Our client creates software that enables businesses to sell life-changing products, on credit, to low-income consumers in emerging markets. Their technology uses an IoT network of connected devices, mobile payments, and machine learning to accelerate the adoption of solar energy systems, smartphones, and appliances.

Over 2 billion people across the globe live off-grid or are unbanked. Connecting this population to power, productive-use appliances, and financial services represents a $400 Billion+ current market opportunity. Their B2B technology platform enables distribution businesses in emerging markets to grow their revenue by over 8x by extending their sales and credit offerings to this consumer base.

When a family in Tanzania (or Nicaragua, or Nigeria, or India…) pays a weekly installment on their new home solar installation, their payment is processed by the backend software. When a distributor monitors the repayment performance of their loan portfolio, they use our clients’ web applications to do so. Their software is already used by businesses in 50+ countries around the world to improve the daily lives of over 5 million people.

Role Objective

Ensure the company achieves its growth targets in the short and long term through crisp sales strategy definition, laser-focused execution, and team growth, management, and development.

Role Summary

The successful candidate will be a key senior sales hire based in the Nairobi, Kenya office.  You will build and lead a team of representatives in our Nairobi office as they make B2B sales of the SaaS platform across African, Latin American, and Southeast Asian markets. As the company continues to rapidly grow, you must thrive in a fast-paced environment and easily transition between strategy and execution. In this entrepreneurial role, you will have purview over a range of activities, including implementation and auditing of the sales CRM, designing and refining the B2B sales strategy, contributing to the creation of sales materials, managing strategic sales, and growing and developing the team. It’s a big job, and you should be hungry to do it! This role reports to the Vice President of Sales.


  • Maintain the existing sales training and advise when you think changes and modifications are necessarily based on your experience during your time in the role
  • Ensure the sales team follows processes in place for maximum effectiveness
  • Own and meet your sales targets
  • Identify strategic areas of focus for the sales team to ensure they can readily hit and surpass their targets
  • Refine the consultative sales strategy and process to win the business of new distributors
  • Facilitate implementation of the CRM and define criteria for successful use by the sales representatives
  • Provide input on the prioritization of software features based on a thorough understanding of the technology
  • Identify new market or business opportunities to drive growth
  • Produce comprehensive sales reports and analyses for senior management
  • Spearhead a long-term strategic plan to achieve aggressive sales targets

  • Experience
  • 8+ years of sales experience selling to small and medium business prospects, both in the trenches and in management
  • BA in business, marketing, communications, or other relevant fields; MBA preferred
  • Experience hiring and managing a sales team; in a start-up context preferred
  • Demonstrated history of meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Experience with selling technical products (software and/or hardware); with B2B SaaS products a plus and Sales Force
  • Experience with designing and implementing CRM processes and other key sales tools

Additional Skills Preferred

  • Proficiency in Office and/or Google Enterprise Software (specifically Excel/Google Sheets and Powerpoint/Slides)
  • Proficiency in any of the following languages (French, Swahili, Spanish, Mandarin)
  • International sales experience
  • Experience attending and working trade shows and events
