Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to manage the financial operations of our dynamic safari company. The ideal candidate will have experience handling accounts for an international clientele and managing relationships with numerous suppliers in the safari and travel sector. This role requires strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a deep understanding of the financial nuances of the tourism and hospitality industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management & Reporting:
– Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company.
– Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses.
– Monitor and report on the company’s financial performance.
2. Accounts Payable & Receivable:
– Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments to safari, lodging and other service suppliers.
– Oversee accounts receivable, including invoicing and ensuring timely payments from international clients.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting:
– Develop and manage budgets for operations, marketing and projects.
– Provide financial forecasts to guide decision-making and strategic planning.
4. Tax Compliance:
– Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax regulations, including VAT, corporate tax and withholding tax.
– Prepare and submit tax returns and liaise with tax authorities as necessary.
5. Client & Supplier Liaison:
– Coordinate with Directors regarding international clients regarding financial inquiries, payment processes and currency exchange considerations.
– Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating payment terms and resolving disputes.
6. Internal Controls & Auditing:
– Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
– Coordinate internal and external audits as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or ACCA certification preferred.
– Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the tourism, hospitality, or luxury travel industry.
– Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
– Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and regulations.
– Experience working with international clients and multi-currency transactions.
– Familiarity with supplier management in the safari or hospitality sector is a plus.
