Security & Risk Operations Manager – JOB REF: SF/OM/2

INDUSTRY- RISK MANAGEMENT AND MITIGATION, SECURITY ADVISORY SERVICE

 

JOB TITLE:                    Operations Manager

HOURS OF WORK:       40 hours per week – Note this is a salaried senior management position and

                                          the candidate will be expected to be on call even when not managing the

                                          Operations room – There is no ‘over time allocation’.

PURPOSE OF JOB:       To supervise and control all company tasking and projects from an operational perspective. To be available on call 24 hours per day to respond to queries and requests from field based consultants. To provide a crisis management initial focal point until the crisis management team are assembled.

MAJOR DUTIES:

 1.          Operations Management

¨      Work under the direction of the General Manager who has overall responsibility for management of the company.

¨      Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from customers who call the primary operations lines.

¨      Respond to all queries and requests for assistance to all field operators and company contracted consultants.

¨      Manage existing tasks and remain as the focal point for all tasks underway.

¨      Manage and maintain all tracking location systems.

¨      Liaise with the group Logistics manager to ensure that all tasks or consultants have the necessary equipment and communication systems to fulfill the company’s contractual obligations.

¨      Liaise with the Business Administrator to ensure that travel planning for all tasks and consultants are in place in order to fulfill the company’s contractual obligations.

¨      Maintain a 24 hour supervisory duty of additional Operations personnel.

2.         Management of clients.

¨      Ensure all interactions with clients are logged in the Client Resource Management System.

¨      Monitor effectiveness of the CRMS and report any problems or variations required to the office.

¨      Report to Sales Manager all feedback from clients.

3.      Special requirements of the post

¨  An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the requirement for strict confidentiality.

¨  An ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to

    Customer’s enquiries and requests.

¨  Excellent communication skills.

¨  A willingness and ability to work as part of a large primary team.

¨  Excellent IT Skills.

¨  Emergency response control with a professionally calm bearing and demeanor

¨  Additional tasking as reasonably directed General Manager.

¨  A minimum of three years experience working in a similar post in the security industry.  Military background a great advantage.

¨  Excellent references essential

Our client owns and manages seven luxury houses in Shela, Lamu.  The properties are let out on a self catering basis to the local and international markets.

An experienced, ambitious and entrepreneurial manager is required to fulfill the following role

Management of :

¨      An existing team of 20 employees

¨      The administration and front office

¨      Reservations

¨      Sea Front shop complex

¨      House maintenance

¨      On line promotion

 Key Attributes

¨      Must be HIGHLY organised and commercially minded

¨      Strong marketing skills and entrepreneurial spirit

¨      Possess strong staff management and mentoring skills

¨      Interest if food a great added advantage

¨      Must be fully computer literate (E mail, spreadsheet, basic website updates etc) and have experience in online promotion

¨      Able to solve house and equipment maintenance problems with limited resources (skilled labour), pool/pumps/generators/electrical systems/well pumps etc.

¨      Must have a minimum of five years senior management experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.

 Hours of work

6 day working week.

Leave to be taken in May/June annually.

HOTEL/CAMP MANAGER, SOUTHERN SUDAN JOB REF: AC/CM/1

Reports to: Juba Managing Director

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide regular reports to the General Manager and Managing Director outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the lodge and services provided.
  • Get to know the clientele, particularly long term clients, and make them feel welcome at the lodge.
  • Develop, train, and provide direction for all staff
  • Promote the Hotel through innovative revenue producing events and promotions
  • Ensure that high standards of hygiene and quality in both accommodation and catering are always maintained
  • Maintain a safe environment for staff and guests
  • Provide advice on staffing levels ensuring that profitability is maximised.
  • Review and identify problem areas, operational concerns and policies & procedures
  • Work with the accountant to ensure proper stock and cash controls are maintained
  • Maintain relations with local authorities such as the Governor, the Department of Labour, Tax office etc

Person Profile:

  • A hands-on Hotel Manager and who will be responsible for the day to day operation of the lodge with an emphasis on increasing sales, developing staff and providing great service.
    • Must be committed to the provision of quality service and be responsive to customer needs
    • A dynamic approach towards business development
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends
    • Diploma in Marketing or Hotel Management will be an added advantage
    • Previous experience in Sudan would also be beneficial.

Our client, a leading operator of small up-market camps and lodges in East Africa, is looking for a strong and experienced Lodge Manager for its reputed boutique lodge on Zanzibar. The lodge has 18 rooms and villas and offers stylish personal services with a truly African alternative to western luxury. We offer genuinely friendly and personal service giving guests time to relax in the privacy and space they came for. You are expected to manage the operation of close to 100 staff and go the extra mile to maintain the high standard and reputation.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for consistent delivery of high-quality guest experience with “soul”, in accordance with general service philosophy and standards set by the group
  • Responsible for general compliance of all operations with agreed standards (e.g. health & safety, operational, staff well-being, environmental, regulatory)
  • Deal with all guests complaints that cannot be effectively dealt with by front-of-house staff
  • Responsible for HR matters
  • Responsible for financial performance against budget, administration and cash flows
  • Supervision of repair and maintenance, replacement CAPEX, an generally keeping the company’s asset base in good condition
  • Maintain community relations and generally representing the company towards external partners and authorities
  • Team player: operating successfully with the other units within the Company (e.g. Sales & Marketing, Finance)

General profile, required qualifications and traits
Hands-on, results-oriented management style. A natural team builder and people manager, who can provide leadership and inspire trust with a broad variety of people. Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities. High personal work standards and organizational skills.

  • Minimum five years work experience in senior management position of operations of 60-plus staff in remote locations in Africa
  • Experience in hospitality a very strong plus, but lack thereof can potentially be resolved through strong front-of-house manager; general affinity with product and service philosophy a must
  • Proven capability in people management
  • Proven capability to deal independently with suppliers, communities and authorities
  • Proven capability to supervise repair and maintenance in a demanding environment
  • General administrative skills
  • Solid on MS Office applications
  • Solid in written English
